This month, Beeston Rise Care Home had the pleasure of welcoming the incredibly talented Rebecca Wright and her team from the Bendigo Lounge, a vibrant community hotspot in Beeston.
Rebecca, who received funding for a local community project, chose to support care provision—a cause that holds deep personal meaning for her. She shared her inspiration for the project, explaining:
“I have a grandmother in care who is an Alzheimer’s patient, and she finds great comfort in coloring. That got me thinking about the power of color for people with dementia. Studies show that shades like blue and green can reduce cortisol levels, promoting calmness. I wanted to create something that would bring joy, creativity, and relaxation to care home residents. Beeston Rise is such an important part of our local community—what better place to bring this idea to life?”
A Mural of Meaning and Connection
Rebecca and her team designed a beautiful mural depicting the British countryside, complete with deer, foxes, squirrels, and vibrant garden flowers. In the background, a rising sun and winding path symbolise that, even in later life, the future remains bright and full of possibilities.
However, the most magical part of the mural is its interactive element. The large tree at the forefront features exposed branches where faux leaves can be attached. Residents can write down activities, excursions, or experiences they’d love to do and place them on the tree. Each month, selected leaves will inspire real-life experiences, ensuring residents have something exciting to look forward to while actively shaping their own activities.
We are immensely grateful to Rebecca and the Bendigo Lounge team for their creativity, generosity, and dedication to making a meaningful impact. We look forward to collaborating on future projects that continue to enrich the lives of our residents.
