The love story of Gordon and Lillian Hewett is a testament to lifelong devotion and enduring love. Growing up on the same estate in South London, their journey together began at the tender age of 14.
On March 21st, 1953, just two weeks after celebrating their 21st birthdays, Gordon and Lillian exchanged vows and embarked on a journey of marriage that spanned over seven decades. Together, they welcomed four children into the world, with their eldest sadly succumbing to cancer in 2013.
Gordon started his career as a tea boy at Lugtons, an electrical wholesale distributor, eventually rising through the ranks to become Managing Director after completing his National Service in the RAF. Lillian, a talented seamstress, balanced her role as a homemaker with additional office work from home to supplement their income.
While Gordon excelled in sports, particularly as a skilled goalkeeper and handball player, Lillian found contentment in family life, preferring knitting and sewing over socialising. Together, they briefly ventured into the hospitality industry, renovating a farmhouse into a Bed and Breakfast before Gordon’s tenure with Lacoste.
Their journey took them across various locations, including Surrey, Hertfordshire, Devon, Somerset, and Northamptonshire, before settling in Woodhall Spa, where they relished each other’s company and the presence of their growing family.
Today, Gordon and Lillian celebrate 71 years of marriage, surrounded by the love of their 11 grandchildren, aged 42 to 19, and soon-to-be 11 great-grandchildren, aged 14 to 3. Their enduring bond serves as an inspiration to us all. Congratulations to Gordon and Lillian on this remarkable milestone!
