Dementia Friendly Barbers
We are thrilled to announce our latest collaboration with Dementia Friendly Barbers, bringing a unique and engaging experience to our care homes. Starting this month, Dementia Friendly Barbers will set up a vintage-inspired pop-up barber shop in each of our homes once a month, creating a special occasion that our residents can look forward to.
The experience will engage the senses with elements of sight, sound, and smell to evoke nostalgia and foster a sense of community. This isn’t a weekly routine, but a monthly event that brings a refreshing change of pace for our residents.
Tom, Founder of Dementia Friendly Barbers, commented, “I am thrilled to announce our partnership with Tanglewood. Their approach to care aligns perfectly with my own vision, which is exactly why I founded the company in the first place.”
Cordelle, Director of Sales at Dementia Friendly Barbers, shared his excitement about the partnership: “For most men, the barber shop is a cherished space—a place to unwind, share stories, and feel a sense of community. We’re recreating that atmosphere, complete with music from the 1950s, classic photos of movie stars from the ‘50s and ‘60s, and iconic moments like the 1966 World Cup.
It’s all about sparking conversations and creating a comfortable environment where residents feel they can open up and talk.”
Each resident will enjoy a 20-minute session, complete with hot towel shaves. This initiative is the first of its kind in the UK, offering a service that truly prioritises emotional and social wellbeing, as well as personal care.
To kick off this exciting partnership, Dementia Friendly Barbers will be visiting Avocet House Care Home in Boston on October 31st, which will also double as a Halloween celebration for our residents. We’re eager to see our male residents embrace this monthly tradition, offering them a fresh way to connect and reminisce.
Stay tuned for more updates as this wonderful partnership unfolds!
