We had a bustling Sunday morning on June 16th at Abbey Wood Lodge. Visitors were constantly coming and going, the kitchen team was hard at work, and the Lifestyle Coordinator was busy decorating for our Father’s Day Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea. On top of that, we celebrated not one, but two birthdays!
The day kicked off mid-morning with Rafi celebrating her 78th birthday. She was joined by her son and two grandsons, delighting in opening gifts, enjoying cake, and connecting with family members from around the country and the world via FaceTime.
At lunchtime, Scott and the kitchen team served their signature Sunday roast dinner. However, instead of taking a break, they immediately began preparations for the Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea for Father’s Day.
Meanwhile, another group of family members arrived to celebrate June M.’s 88th birthday. Another round of “Happy Birthday” was sung, another cake was enjoyed, and more gifts were given!
At 2:30 PM, the Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea was served for many of the fathers in our care home and their families. The lounge was festively decorated with a balloon arch, a large mustache, and beer pint balloons. Father’s Day swirly streamers dangled from the ceiling, and the tables featured individualized settings for the dads. Our kitchen team presented a beautiful and delicious spread, including sandwiches, cheese and onion quiche, quiche Lorraine, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, and an assortment of handmade Danish pastries.
The room buzzed with excitement, conversations, and laughter as six residents, 17 family members, and one puppy enjoyed a wonderful afternoon celebrating our fathers!
The Abbey Wood Lodge team truly pulled together and worked hard to make this day extra special for all the dads and birthday celebrants in residence!
