Janet and Derek’s love story began in the halls of their Infant School, where they first crossed paths. Despite Derek’s quiet demeanor, Janet found herself drawn to him. “That’s why Janet fancied me,” Derek would jest, “because I didn’t speak very much.”
Their journey continued through Junior School, where Derek’s intellect shone, earning him the nickname “Cleverclogs” from Janet, who playfully teased him about his academic prowess. As they transitioned into their teenage years, Janet found solace in the Young People’s Fellowship association at their church, a community Derek also joined, along with the Boys Brigade.
Their teenage romance blossomed into something deeper when Janet turned 17, and the couple officially began dating. Two years later, on a picturesque May day in 1961, Janet and Derek exchanged vows in a grand ceremony, surrounded by loved ones. Their honeymoon in Jersey marked the beginning of their adventures as husband and wife.
Setting up their first home in Harlow, Essex, Janet and Derek embarked on the journey of parenthood, welcoming Joanne into their lives in 1964, followed by Richard in 1967. Janet’s wedding attire, a stunning creation crafted by Derek’s mother, reflected the love and care woven into every stitch.
Their love story continued to unfold as they moved to Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, where they made cherished memories for seven years. Later, Hemel Hempstead became their beloved home for four decades, until they found themselves at Holbeach Meadows.
Through every milestone and move, Janet and Derek’s love remained steadfast, a testament to the enduring bond they shared. As they continue their journey at Holbeach Meadows, their love story serves as a beacon of inspiration for all who know them.
