To celebrate Fortune Cookie Day, Lifestyles Coordinators Sapphire and Jenny decorated both floors with Chinese decorations.
Our local Chinese resturant called The WheatSheaf Inn donated fortune cookies for our residents and team members at Cedar Falls to enjoy. Residents enjoyed reminiscing about the times they used to visit Chinese restaurants and what they liked to order, along with also talking about Fortune Cookie day, learning where Fortune Cookieswere originally made from and why they were created.
Foturne Cookies can be traced as far back as the 1870s, where confectionary shops in Kyoto, Japan sold crackers with the same shape and a forutne tucked inside the bend. It was called “tsujiura senbei,” or “fortune cracker.”
A Fortune Cookie is a symbol of luck, wisdom, fate and the unknown. The message inside the cookie is specifically for you, it is your fortune, out of all the cookies you could have picked, you picked that one.
The residents and staff also enjoyed indulging in a fortune cookie and reading all of our fortunes.
