On Wednesday residents and team members at Holbeach Meadows came together to celebrate for more reasons than one! We presented our quarter 2 Star Performer Awards, our Team Member of the Month for June and our Team Bingo prizes, as well as celebrating opening our first floor dementia unit, a major milestone for the home!
Congratulations go to Deputy Care Manager Betty, Care Assistants Becky, Paul and Chloe and Housekeeper Sarah, who were nominated for Star Performer Awards by Home Manager Gemma for their commitment, improving their knowledge, skills and performance at work and their contribution to the team. Regional Manager Cheryl presented our Star Performers with their awards and nominated and presented Gemma with a Star Performer Award of her own.
Congratulations also to Care Assistant Sarah, our Team Member of the Month for June, a special award because it is voted for by colleagues and residents.
Holbeach Meadows has now opened the first floor which will be dedicated to residents living with dementia. We have been busy preparing the environment to ensure we have plenty of stimulation and are providing lots of opportunities for life skills activities to take place to keep residents active and being a part of the running of their home, just like they would have done in their own homes. Research has shown that meaningful life skill activities provide people living with dementia comfort, a sense of familiarity and purpose, routine, independence and boost self esteem. At Holbeach Meadows life skill activities are part of the daily routine for residents living with dementia and already, we are seeing these residents thrive in this setting.
Home Manager Gemma said, ‘all of the team are stars, the home has gone from strength to strength in recent months and I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved. Unfortunately I can’t give everyone a Star Performer Award, but everyone was given a small gift to show my appreciation for all of their hard work, the quote on their keyring says ‘may you be proud of the work you do, the person you are and the difference you make’ and that is so true.
Opening our first floor has been incredibly exciting and we look forward to watching all of our plans for our residents living with dementia, come to life.
Having a party with our wonderful community of residents seemed the perfect way to celebrate. We ate lovely food prepared by our fantastic catering department, applauded our stars, had fabulous entertainment from singer Tara, we sang along, danced and laughed together. It was a wonderful afternoon and made all worth it to hear one of our newest residents say ‘I haven’t had so much fun in ages’ – that is what we, at Holbeach Meadows are all about!’
