Meet our Home Manager Kelly Davies – Sandpiper Care Home

As general manager what does your role entail?

 As home manager I am responsible for the happiness and wellbeing of the residents in our care. My role is to provide the information, provide support to ensure they are safe and well cared for and liaise with stakeholders. I also aim to employ team members who are kind, caring and capable and have a duty of care to my team also.  Most importantly my job is to develop a warm, inclusive community so that our residents, their families, and team members live, work and visit a happy home.

Why did you choose a career in the care sector?

I always wanted to work in care and enjoy being part of a sector that genuinely cares for people.  Working in care was the best decision for me, I meet the most amazing people and every day is different – I am happy in my chosen career making a difference to people’s lives is highly rewarding.

What qualifications do you have?

Health care assistant Diploma, Health and social care NVQ 2 and 3, Leadership in management NVQ 5

How do you relieve the anxiety of people coming to live in a care home?

We take a kind and gentle approach for new residents.  It is important that they go at their own pace and feel comfortable. We encourage friends and family to visit as often as they like and include them.  Listening and talking to new resident if important to find out the things the make them feel happy and content.  We also include our other residents who are invaluable in making people feel relaxed and included.

 Which part of the role do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy seeing residents settle into our home’s community, joining in activities and making friends.  Seeing them feel safe, happy and enjoying companionship is rewarding. We are a family here at Sandpiper.

How do you spend your free time?

I enjoy spending time with my family and especially my First grandchild whilst she is still young. I like visiting new areas of the country. I also enjoy time with my friends going out for meals.
