Oktoberfest fun at Sleaford Hall

The week of 7th October was an exciting one at Sleaford Hall Care Home as preparations were in full swing for our special “Travel to Germany” event, celebrating Oktoberfest! To set the festive mood, we got creative by making vibrant bunting, hand-coloured triangles in the bold black, red, and yellow of the German flag, alongside the iconic blue and white diamond pattern.

We chose Friday, 11th October, for our festival evening in Sleaford, and the atmosphere was electric. The hall was decorated with our handmade bunting, colourful balloons, and fancy table settings, creating the perfect Oktoberfest vibe. Before the festivities began, we chatted about German culture and learned interesting facts about Oktoberfest, including its traditional foods, beers, and outfits.

As the party got underway, visitors arrived, and staff donned themed aprons to add to the fun. In the kitchen, Bratwurst sausages were sizzling, while pretzels and German pilsner beer, Perlenbacher, were set out for everyone to enjoy. The music was lively, and the photo booth, where everyone had a chance to pop their heads through a fun backdrop, quickly became a hit!

When the Bratwurst was served, it was an instant success. Stephen, who had never tried Bratwurst before, loved them so much he polished off four sausages, washed down with his new favourite pilsner. Everyone was happily chatting, socialising, and enjoying the authentic German treats.

To keep the party going, we sang along to some popular pub songs and wrapped up the evening with a fun quiz about Germany and Oktoberfest, giving us all a chance to learn a bit more while having a laugh.

Stephen had such a great time that he’s already asking for another Oktoberfest event, and Jenny, along with the rest of the group, couldn’t agree more. We’ll definitely be planning another fun night soon maybe a quiz night, a movie evening, or even bingo! Stay tuned for more exciting events at Sleaford Hall!
