On the 25th of October, we celebrated National Pumpkin Day with a pumpkin carving competition. The event elicited a range of responses from our residents, reflecting the diverse reactions to this Halloween tradition. Some individuals were put off by the texture of the pumpkin’s insides, while others found the smell less than pleasant. However, there were heartwarming moments, like that of our resident Phyliss, who had never tried her hand at pumpkin carving before.
Phyliss’s experience was made all the more special with the enthusiastic support of Kelly, one of our senior team members, and her two sons. Together, they not only embraced the task but also shared their expertise with the rest of us. To kick things off, they provided a fantastic demonstration of how to carve pumpkins, and then they lent a helping hand to those residents who were a bit wary of scooping out the pumpkin innards.
It wasn’t just the residents who got into the spirit of the day; some of our team members were more than willing to pitch in and help out. It was a heartwarming and inclusive celebration of National Pumpkin Day, where, despite mixed reactions, the sense of togetherness and the joy of learning something new prevailed.
