Resident regains mobility and independence at Toray Pines Care Home

Edward was born in November 1939, his father was in the Army, during WWII he was captured and sent to Colditz Concentration camp where he spent 5 years and at the end of the war was released.

Edward’s mother sadly died of leukemia in 1947. Edward went on to spend 7 years in the Army before becoming a civil surveyor for 32 years, he married his wife Jill in 1990.

Edward and Jill lived together, before Jill received a diagnosis of dementia and Edward struggled to care for Jill as his own health was declining.

Jill became a resident at Toray Pines and Edward joined shortly after in 2021 after becoming rather ill and both received 24-hour care. Knowing that Jill was being cared for allowed Edward to concentrate on his health but still being able to spend precious quality time with Jill.

Edward had arrived at Toray Pines as a bed bound resident with no mobility at all. Edward engaged very well with the Neighbourhood Team (Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy) to rebuild his confidence and mobility. Edward progressed and with lots of positive encouragement was able to actively use a 3 wheeled mobility aid to assist his walking. Edward had gained back some of his much-needed independence.

Edward now enjoys walks out in the local village, shopping for himself, popping along to the church and local café. Edward enjoys walking around the large garden at Toray Pines, he socialises with the other residents and enjoys sitting with them in the bar area but also enjoys his own company where he often goes back to his room. Edward can visit Jill whenever he desires and will take himself off to the first floor via the elevator as and when he likes. Edward’s health is much better now, the support and encouragement from the team members at Toray Pines has been outstanding.
