At Abbey Wood Lodge, we embrace every opportunity to involve our residents in neighborhood events. Whether it’s a sunny day walk in Coronation Park, enjoying a meal at the local pub, or taking day trips with West Lancs Dial-A-Ride, we love engaging with our community.
We were delighted to be invited to the Ormskirk Civic Hall on Saturday, 18th May, for a concert by the ReSound Community Choir. The choir generously offered to perform for several local care homes free of charge, and they put on a fantastic show!
The concert’s theme was ‘Friendship,’ and the choir, accompanied by their live band, beautifully harmonized to classics like Queen’s ‘We Are the Champions,’ Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody,’ the Rugby Anthem ‘World in Union,’ and Mary Hopkin’s ‘Those Were the Days.’ Choir Director Sarah encouraged audience participation, and many were singing, whistling, and even dancing along. Those who were more reserved still swayed, clapped, and tapped their toes to the music.
The choir’s dedication shone through not only in their performance but also in their hospitality. During the intermission, they served teas and cakes and took the time to chat with care teams and residents. These small, heartfelt interactions made our residents feel valued and part of a larger community.
Our four residents from Abbey Wood Lodge, Edna, Brenda, Betty, and Frank left the concert in high spirits. Music plays a vital role in evoking memories and emotions, and we are grateful to the ReSound Community Choir for including us in their wonderful event. We look forward to attending more of their concerts throughout the year!
