This week marked a significant milestone for Richard House, as it officially opened its doors to nursing care. Previously offering only residential and dementia care, the home saw an opportunity to extend its support to a wider community of residents in need of nursing care.
To celebrate this special occasion, Richard House hosted an open day filled with live entertainment, a delicious buffet, and beautiful decorations, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for residents, families, and staff.
During the celebrations, we had the privilege of sitting down with our first two nursing residents, Alexander and Joan, to learn more about their lives and what led them to Richard House.
Alexander’s Story:
Born in Bingham, Alexander’s life journey has taken him across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. He married his wife in Lincoln in 1972 after meeting her the year before. Together, they raised three children and eventually moved to Grantham. A skilled engineer in Newark, one of his proudest creations was a beautifully crafted fireplace. His lifelong passion for steam engines, cycling, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and gardening has remained strong. Following a 39-night hospital stay, Alexander is now enjoying life at Richard House, surrounded by his loving family, including six grandchildren ranging from 9 to 17 years old—all of whom live locally. His wife shared: “Everyone is so friendly and caring. It’s a lovely atmosphere—I even love the wallpaper!”
Joan’s Story:
For 66 years, Joan lived in her cherished home in Grantham, and now, from her bedroom at Richard House, she can still enjoy the very same views she once admired. Joan describes being at Richard House as “coming home.” A devoted mother of six, grandmother of 14, and great-grandmother of 10, Joan has deep roots in the community. She worked in office administration after finishing school and later dedicated her time to raising her children while also supporting local agricultural work, including potato picking and sugar beet harvesting.
We are truly honored to welcome Alexander and Joan to our growing nursing community and look forward to supporting them with warmth, care, and compassion.
