On Wednesday 21st June 2023, summer solstice marked the astronomical start of summer and the longest day of the year. Thousands of people gathered at Stonehenge to watch the sunrise glide perfectly over the stones. Some experts even believe that the stones were created to provide the perfect stage for the event.
This week at Tanglewood Horncastle residents celebrated the occasion by making our very own sun dial out of Roman numerals and a wheel. We made sure to make our sun dial face North. Residents loved talking about Stonehenge and reminiscing on times they had visited the landmark.
It was a fantastic activity, and we are very pleased summer has officially arrived!
