Gill Lenton retired from her job in 2006, after working as a Meet and Greet at Asda for 10 years. Gill is 77 years young and loves to be out in the community. Gill started volunteering in her spare time at the Breast care Unit at Grantham Hospital after receiving treatment for Breast Cancer herself.
When asked about her volunteering at Richard House Gill commented, ‘I came back to volunteering after seeing an advert for a volunteer at Richard House and with it being on the grounds of Chandos House, I felt like I was coming back home.’
‘The atmosphere at Richard House is so different to anywhere I’ve volunteered before. It has a family feel to the home and the great lively atmosphere is fantastic to. I’m proud to be part of the team.’
‘I love volunteering as I feel that putting a smile back a person’s face can make such a difference to how they feel for the rest of the day. So, if I can make a difference to people’s lives by volunteering then it makes me happy.’
During the time that Gill has spent volunteering many residents have had the pleasure of spending time with Gill, they all say that she lights up a room when she walks in. Gill likes to visit the residents and spend time in their rooms having a good old natter.
Anita Asken Lifestyles commented, ‘Since Gill has started at Richard House as our volunteer, she has been a great asset, and we thank her very much for her time and effort. Gill makes such a difference to the lives of our residents, and it’s a pleasure having her visiting the home.’
